XFEL is a scientific facility covering many disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, machinery, electronics, computer, etc. Researchers need to learn to master and use interdisciplinary expertise to work together. XFEL knowlegdge database is a dedicated database that systematically integrated academic resources related to free electron laser devices. It is based on the Confluence software system, and has initially formed a data space (CDI XFEL Database) with serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) and single particle imaging (SPI) as the themes of XFEL structural analysis and imaging experiments. At present, the knowledge base has collected more than 4,000 documents in the related fields of free electron laser in the world, covering academics information such as the development history of XFEL device, the summary of various research fields, the basic principles and concepts of experimental types, experimental methods, experimental equipment, experimental data, data processing flow, data analysis software and scientific research results, etc.
Confluence is an excellent software package with resource sharing and project management function for large-scale projects. Both SLAC and DESY use Confluence to build an online integration platform for internal resource sharing, information exchange and project management. It is a web-based software, which has rich features e.g. powerful editing and site management. It can also provide a collaborative environment for the team, and meet the needs of members on sharing information, document collaboration, collective discussion, information push, etc.
