Zhi received his Ph.D. in Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017 on studying high power laser front-end systems for laser confinement fusion. From July 2017 to June 2019, he worked as a Research Associate on high power laser systems for laser wakefield accelerated electron source at John Adams Institute of Acceleration Science in Imperial College London. On July 2019, he joined as a postdoc in the optics group at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) in Argonne National Laboratory and focused on X-ray multi-contrast imaging methods for wavefront sensing, at-wavelength metrology, and phase imaging in 2D and 3D. He was also working on AI-accelerated X-ray imaging methods and X-ray dark-field microscopy for synchrotron facilities. On September 2022, he joined the hard X-ray free electron laser project in ShanghaiTech University and is working on X-ray beamline design and diagnostics, and X-ray pump-probe techniques.
