Sponsored by Shanghai Association For Science and Technology, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, Shanghai Engineer Academy, and Shanghai Science & Technology Development Foundation, the first “Shanghai Outstanding Young Engineer Award” was instructed to spur and promote remarkable engineers working for the production line, for boosting their social impact and enhancing the self-reliance in high-level science and technology. Associate research fellow Meixiao Wang from the School of Physical Science and Technology and Center for Transformative Science (CTS) of ShanghaiTech University was awarded this shortlist for his excellent works in designing and constructingthe Chinese first  Nano Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (NanoARPES) endstation with its engineering team coming from ShanghaiTech University.

Joining ShanghaiTech University in September 2015, Meixiao Wang has started his work in the design, construction, and testing of the NanoARPES Experimental Station from the beginning. As an integral part of Spatial-resolved and spin-resolved ARPES and magnetism beamline in the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) Phase II project, NanoARPES Experimental Station is the first relevant research facility in China. The overall performance of this facility has reached to the top level in the world. He and his engineering team members overcome multiple technical problems in the design of the rotating vacuum chamber, the diagnostic of alignment of microfocus optics, the accuracy in sample manipulation position, the overall stability of the whole system, and low temperature performance to complete this projects on time.

As the head of the SES Experimental Station in  hard X-ray free electron laser beamline project , he is making his great efforts to the construction of the photon science center and high-tech and innovation hub in Zhangjiang. The target of the SES Experimental Station is to explore electronic structures of materials in multi-degree of freedom. . “Previously, we acquired world-level experimental results using imported scientific instruments. Now, I am very proud that being a part of the engineering team, we can establish our own worldwide-first-class scientific instruments in our own country, and then we can invite and serve many excellent  scientists from other countries to perform their experiments here with us.” Meixiao Wang said. He sincerely appreciated the nice career development platform provided by the ShanghaiTech University and opportunities for the self-development of engineers bring to engineers provided from China’s high-speed development. “I will do my best to process every technical detail and optimize the design for every vacuum chamber. I believe the scientific and technical innovation level of photon science in China will lead the race instead of chasing others in the near future.”
